A Single Bag of Chips

I appreciate people who have a passion they've focused on for so long that it has almost become an extension of themselves. I appreciate people who have hidden talents and hobbies that they keep around like spare tires in their trunks. I like when people show up to Friendsgiving with a single bag of chips they picked up on their ride over, people who eat all of the chocolate chunks from the trail mix, leaving the peanuts and raisins untouched, or the ones who call you while they’re at the grocery store and can’t choose between two flavors of ice cream. I like the ones who sit on FaceTime in silence while you study, or the ones who show up in the middle of the night to make mac and cheese—white cheddar, of course. I like the people who take forever to say goodbye, lingering at the front door and telling you every last thought. The ones who wave all the way down the driveway as they leave. I like the ones who ditch parties with you to slam chicken wings down instead of drinks, the ones who pierce your ears for you, and the ones who jump from planes and canyons with you (even if you just met). I really like the ones who group-hug, squishing you in the middle.
I appreciate the people who are just there for you, even if they arrive at the function with only a single bag of chips.
